“Safe Keeping”

About this exhibition:

Safe-Keeping is an exhibition exploring the effects of Mass Incarceration and the War on Drugs on the Black Community. The effects from the Nixon and Reagan administration on Black communities can be seen to this day. With the government aided flooding of Black neighborhoods with crack cocaine, the introductions of mandatory minimum sentence and private prisons, there became an added economic incentive to target people within these communities causing the imprisonment, deaths, and separations of generations of Black people and families.

About this exhibition:

This title speaks to the amount of movement and activeness that will be seen throughout several photos on display. These photos show a lot of happiness, excitement, and care-freeness from Black residents in predominately Back neighborhoods. "These will be photos from various parts of the U.S. but will show a feeling of activeness."

The CMPLX is located inside the Lamar Shopping Center in Orange Mound.
